MILLWORK FLATS REPRESENTS A BOLD STEP FORWARD.
In the Spring of 2022, a group of local entrepreneurs acquired the property at 1065 Jackson St., taking over a stalled redevelopment effort.
The new ownership aimed to breathe new life into the site by establishing it as the new home for Gigantic Design Co, an expanding design agency with deep roots in the Millwork District. What began as a revitalization effort soon transformed into a much larger passion project, igniting a vision for something far greater and more impactful.
Our perspective changed dramatically upon reviewing a nearly 15-year-old Millwork Comprehensive Master Plan. The master plan called for new infill development on the site. We realized that this project demanded more than just revitalizing an old structure; it required us to pivot and add something entirely new to the district.
The Millwork District is renowned for its historic buildings, a testament to its industrial past. While adaptive reuse remains central to the district's identity, our project aims to introduce something entirely new, fostering progress, revitalization and prosperity. A rising tide lifts all boats, and we aspire to be a catalyst for furthering the remarkable progress already achieved in the Millwork District.
Millwork Flats is a grand vision — a project far more ambitious than what we initially imagined. Motivated by a community on the cusp of significant transformation, we are energized by the spirit of Dubuque and those who will call it home — now and in the future.
